I help dancers make their mind their greatest asset — using performance psychology to break through plateaus, silence the inner critic, and find the freedom to truly play.
My approach
Most dancers work tirelessly on technique — but the ceiling they keep hitting isn't physical. It's psychological. How you learn, how you respond to mistakes, how much of your identity is tied up in how you dance — these are the things that actually determine how far you go.
I draw on over 10 years in performance psychology and corporate development to help dancers understand and reshape those mental patterns. Here's what that looks like in practice:
The bigger picture
"You don't train these things so you can dance better. Eventually, dance becomes the way you train these things. That's why it's so addictive — if you want to grow."
There's a moment most dancers reach — where the work stops being about steps and starts being about something much bigger. Who am I when I make a mistake? Can I stay present when I feel watched? Do I need to be good to enjoy this?
The skills you build on the dancefloor — focus, emotional regulation, resilience, the ability to be present — don't stay on the floor. They spill into everything. That's not a side effect. That's the point.

I'm Patty — a performance psychologist with over a decade of experience helping people unlock their potential. A few years ago, that work met my personal obsession: dance.
What I found on the dancefloor was the same thing I'd seen everywhere else: the real work is always inner work. The patterns, the blocks, the breakthroughs — they all come down to your relationship with yourself.
I created Patty Dance Psychology to bring those tools into the dance world. The same methods used by elite athletes to find freedom, flow, and play — applied to dance.
In dance — every step tells a story.
Alongside my work as a dance psychologist, I host Step by Step — a podcast for the social dance community that believes dance can change more than your steps. It can change you.
We sit down with Latin dancers to uncover the human behind the artist: their challenges, breakthroughs, and philosophies on growth. Because dance isn't just movement — it's mindset, emotion, and the stories we carry within us.
